The mayor of Orihuela, Emilio Bascuñana, the Councilor for Sports, Víctor Valverde, and the president of the Valencian Tennis Federation, Antonio Martínez Cascales, presented last Tuesday the Championship of Spain Mapfre Beach Tennis 2017, to be held on Octobre 7th and 8th at La Glea beach, Campoamor which will bring together the best spanish beach tennis players.

The mayor of Orihuela wants to “invite all the inhabitants of the Region to attend and participate as spectators in this sporting event,” as “this Government Team has bet on promoting in Orihuela the sport and healthy habits,” at the same time who thanked the organizers of this event: the Councilor for Sports, the Councilor of Beaches and Coasts, the Spanish Tennis Federation and the Tennis Federation of the Valencian Community.

The Councilor of Sports also stressed that “this is the eighth major event that takes place in the area of the coast,” as the V Triathlon Beaches of Orihuela last May, or the X Orihuela Costa Beach Volleyball Cup and the start of the ninth stage of the Vuelta Ciclista in Spain, emphasizing “the commitment of this Government Team to continue promoting and being part of this acts to the inhabitants of Orihuela Costa “. In addition, the Mayor stressed the fact that all participants in the championship have accommodation in Orihuela Costa, “which will mean a large refund of the investment made for this event.”

Also, Antonio Martínez stated that The Federation was “very happy with the City Council of Orihuela for the effort made to organize this event”, highlighting the suitability of Orihuela’s beaches for the performance of this sport.

The beach tennis is a trending sport that is gaining adherents, arising from the fusion between beach and racket sports. In this championship, qualifying for the World Championship, the best ranked in the national ranking, counting with 64 registered couples (32 men and 32 women) from fifteen autonomous communities. The facilities prepared for the event will have 8 playgrounds, which will house the 88 matches to be played on both days, in addition to having a tier with free access for the public.
